Wild Sheep Foundation Magazine
James Reed, our sheep hunter during the fall season of 2018, was featured on the cover of Wild Sheep Foundation’s winter and convention issue magazine! We couldn’t be prouder of James and his strength and persistence as a hunter.
James says,
We packed into the Brooks Range in Alaska on an exploratory sheep hunt with Lyle Becker of Alaska Skookum Guides into an area that hadn't had an outfitted sheep tag in 15 years. We worked our butts off and were rewarded with this beautiful 11 1/2 year old broomed ram. The 20 mile pack-out with 80+ pound packs was brutal but made the accomplishment that much more rewarding. (even heavy loads feel better when there's sheep horns on your back) A true adventure and lifetime dream come true and was blessed to be able to share it with two great guys, Lyle and our young packer Hunter.
Successful Hunter Magazine
Guy Miner, a spring Arctic Grizzly hunter in May of 2017, wrote a fantastic article about his experience in the July 2018 issue of “Successful Hunter” magazine. You can get a digital subscription of the magazine via the link below and even read part of the article through the preview images online.
Guy had this to say about his hunt,
Alaska Skookum Guides excelled at delivering my dream hunt! I’d wanted to hunt grizzly in the Arctic my entire adult life, and in my early 60’s, made it happen.
Lyle Becker was good at explaining my options, and costs I’d incur in addition to his fees. He helped me choose between his brown bear hunt, and his grizzly hunt. His gear list was detailed, and it helped me prepare for the trip, updating some of by outdoor gear.
We flew well north of the Arctic Circle, landing on a small gravel strip, then set up a comfortable camp with sturdy, weather-tight backpacking type tents and one larger cook tent. Food was great! Three good meals a day, including plenty of hot coffee & cocoa on those cold days. I had a welcome opportunity to check my rifle’s zero, and did so.
This is a spot and stalk hunt. I had my binoculars, but there were two high quality spotting scopes available as well. I participated in three stalks, just missing a chance to intercept one grizzly, taking a wolf on another stalk, and taking a very nice mature grizzly on the third stalk.
The wolf and grizzly were skinned, fleshed out, and salted, ready for transport to a taxidermist before leaving camp.
I have only good things to say about this incredible hunt, in the Arctic, for grizzly and wolf. Lyle did an excellent job of making sure that my dream hunt happened. I highly recommend his guide service.
